The tour itself was great, and Joseph was an excellent tour guide. The only trouble we had was with the TripAdvisor directions for meeting with the group. The assumption was that everyone would arrive by transit, and we arrived by car with no parking instructions. In addition, there was construction at the assembly site so the landmarks were not apparent.

As my family was getting off the subway at the Staten Island Ferry stop to go see the Statue of Liberty, we were approached by salespeople selling tickets for a tour. My daufght said that she thought the tour was free. The guy told us that they are doing construction there now (the Ellis Island terminal?) and "that's why we are standing out here selling tickets in the rain." After some hesitation on our part, he convinced us that he was legitimate. We bought 3 tickets and then they walked us away from the ferry; I told the guide that we are going in the wrong direction, that the ferry was behind us. He insisted that no, that's not where you go, you we are taking you to a bus stop that will take you to the ferry. We rode the bus for 30-45 min to midtown (near where we started our day), had to stand in the cold rain and wait for them to open the door for us to get on a ferry (enclosed). The tour "guide" was likable enough and described places along the river in route to the Statue of Liberty. When we got there, he told us that everyone should take advantage of the free Staten Island Ferry that also goes to the Statue!!! This was the tour I wanted to go on in the first place!! The one that we were walked away from and were told "that building (where you leave for the free Staten Island ferry) is closed." I was fuming at this point. What should have been a quick and free ferry ride ended up costing us $200 and took almost 4 hours (getting there, riding bus, ferry tour, and riding bus again). I complained and refund was rejected. If you REALLY want a long a guided tour, the it was okay, but don't fall for their shady salesmanship. There is a free alternative

Marla was a great guide, very informative and entertaining. The tour itself is very worthwhile and definitely worth seeing

Did not like the guide. The tour guide asked 2 people to get off the tour. He mentioned several times to us we could just leave if we wanted in a very condescending way
