Our service begins upon your arrival at the Bozeman, Montana, where we provide lodging at the Gran Tree Hotel. The hotel provides shuttles to and from the airport and the lively Downtown of Bozeman. We encourage you to rest up; the adventure begins tomorrow!

The following morning, your guides will meet you in the lobby, and we will begin our journey. We will pass through the historic town of Livingston and then through the picturesque Paradise Valley before arriving in the quaint mountain town of Gardiner. Lunch will be provided in Gardiner. During the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to explore the ancient geological formations of the Mammoth Terraces and view the abundant wildlife that spend the winter in the lower elevation areas around Mammoth Hot Springs and the Gardiner River Canyon. We then return to your accommodations and dinner at the Wonderland Lodge, a newly opened eco-lodge and café serving gourmet organic meals, with Vegan and Gluten Free options.

An early morning start allows us the privilege of positioning ourselves inside Yellowstone National Park in the best places to find wolves and other wildlife before the first light. We will be able to access the territories of five different wolf packs, and we will spend our time in the areas with the best chances to locate and photograph wolves at that time. Your guides know these wolves well and can often predict their movements, enabling us to position ourselves for the best viewing opportunities possible. We also have the privilege of first-hand information on wildlife locations through direct contact with the Yellowstone National Park wolf biologists, local wolf enthusiasts, professional photographers and film makers. The exact areas we are visiting each day will be determined by the most current information on wildlife activity.

While focusing on these five wolf packs, we will also have many opportunities to spend time with other iconic Yellowstone wildlife species that concentrate in the lower elevation valley bottoms due to the heavy snow in the higher mountains. During these days, we can expect to be able to watch and photograph wolf, bison, elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, moose, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, coyote, fox, otter, beaver, bald eagle, golden eagle, raven, magpie, and possibly other rarer species.

On these days, we are serving hot drinks and breakfast snacks at sunrise in the park. At midmorning, a larger lunch spread will be served picnic style in one of our favorite spots in the park. In the afternoons, wildlife sightings can be amazing as we work our way back through the Lamar Valley and the Northern Range. Guests can plan on arriving back in Gardiner between 4-5 PM depending on the animals we find along the way. Our dinners will be enjoyed in the new Wonderland Cafe, followed by a special guest presentation each evening with local biologists, authors and filmmakers.

Additional Information

  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking, unless booked within 7 days of travel. In this case confirmation will be received within 48 hours, subject to availability
  • What to Wear:

It is imperative that you bring plenty of warm clothing. Expect winter weather conditions and remember the early morning hours will be COLD. Please bring WARM footwear, winter/snow pants, and a warm winter jacket. Please layer up with several layers of thermal tops and bottoms. Dressing in layers is very important, and having insulating layers to keep you warm, and outer layers to protect from wind and snow is essential to stay comfortable in the elements of the Yellowstone winter.  Hats and gloves are also a must. A warm, and sturdy pair of boots that will keep your feet warm and dry and allow you to walk through snow and across ice is also advised. Your footwear should also be comfortable during sustained periods of stand while watching and looking for wildlife. Personal traction devices, like YakTrax or IceTrekkers are recommended if you are concerned about falling on the snow and ice. Hand warmers and toe warmers, which go inside your gloves and boots, can be provided, and we recommend you apply full-length foot warmers in the morning before we start. It’s better to keep warm than to try to get warm after you’ve gotten cold, especially in the extremities. We will have plenty of space in our tour vehicles for extra clothing and you can always take off what you don't need. We will have lots of hot drinks to help warm up throughout the day. There will be bathroom stops throughout the park, and we will never be more than 10 minutes from a Park Service bathroom.

Other items to bring include sunglasses, sunscreen, and any personal medications or other items needed for an extended day in the park. Questions about clothing and conditions can be sent to info@yellowstonewildtours.com.
