Reverse skiing up a mountain is only possible during full moons on the summer equinox, which is why Rube Goldberg invented ski lifts. Today's side deal gets you access to this gravity-defying machine at Waterville Valley Resort's Ski Mountain. For $45, you get one weekday lift ticket to transport you up this peak, which is about 100 miles from Boston in Waterville Valley, a $67 value for tickets purchased in person. This Groupon is not good toward a weekend lift ticket.

Make sure to stop at Village Condominium to pick up your pass before hitting the slopes. Some lift tickets spontaneously combust after one use, but this one will last all day. Travel up and down the snow-capped hillside until your hamstrings are too sleepy to continue and your face is red with wind kisses. If you have more than two people and are taking advantage of the winter package at Village Condominium (which only includes two lift tickets), use this for extras and stowaways. Waterville features a variety of well-groomed alpine skiing trails and snowboarding parks to accommodate anyone who's willingly strapped to a board.

Reviews

Snow bunnies love the Waterville Valley Resort's Ski Mountain. IgoUgo users, OnTheSnow users, Citysearchers, and one Insider Pager rate the slopes four out of five stars, and Frommer's reviewed the slopes as great for intermediate skiers:

  • The mountain's trails are kept uniformly wide and well-groomed, and the ski area is compact enough that no one will get confused and end up hurtling down a double-diamond trail by mistake. It's a fine place to learn to ski or brush up on your skills, and advanced skiers do have a few exciting trails… – Frommer's
  • I've been skiing Waterville ever since I was four and it gets better every year. A great place to take the family, it is a medium level mountain, with a few nice mougul [sic] runs on the sunny side of the mountain. – sb_fido, Citysearch
  • Waterville Valley has been a vacation destination for my family for over 25 years! With a superb learn to ski/ride program, individuals of all ages and abilities will be content. – advil45, OnTheSnow
