Explorer Ponce de León abandoned his quest to discover the mythical land of wine after a tumble into the Fountain of Youth left him eternally underage. Take up his journey with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get admission to The Summer Pinot Noir Event on Friday, August 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bar Adagio in Hotel Adagio from VIN12.
VIN12's wine events gather guests in urban social spots to blend traditional and nontraditional approaches to tasting wine. The Summer Pinot Noir Event continues VIN12's wine-event series, focused on the taste tapestries of pinot noir. Wine-minders representing more than 20 wine producers lure fermented fruits from Sonoma, Napa, Central Coast, and Central Valley out of their bottles by means of hypnotic fiddle. Attendees tickle their tongues with upward of 50 piquant pinot noirs along with more than 10 other varietals such as cabernet franc, chardonnay, syrah, and merlot.
Guests mingle as they sip from bottomless glasses the whole evening, countering pushy tannins with light fare from a local food vendor (at an additional cost). Mix stomach-bound wines into proper digestion with the aid of music from Martin Collins. As guests acquaint tongues with rich-colored elixirs, they can wander around Bar Adagio, with its red light fixtures and warm-hued walls, and listen to sound waves hand-plucked by Martin Collins.
When VIN12 held their first event nearly five years ago in San Francisco, it heralded a new golden age for Californian wine connoisseurs. An age of monthly tastings held across Northern California. An age of parties with themes such as sparkling wine, zinfandel, and pinot noir. An age of enough empty bottles to cast an entire Charles Dickens novel into the sea. With expert curation by 650 vintners, VIN12 has held more than five dozen tastings since its inception and has entertained more than 21,000 wine enthusiasts.
