Vintage Venice Reel to Real Tours, Los Angeles Magazine's "Best Walking Tour of 2012 and 2013," presents its 5th annual Venice Holiday Walking Tour. Once a year, the Venice canals sparkle with the reflection of holiday lights, and Vintage Venice takes you there. You'll start the afternoon traveling back in time over a hundred years as Jonathan Kaplan, tour guide for the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation and 21-year Venice resident, shows you film clips via iPad going back to 1910. Watch long-gone canals, roller coasters and pleasure piers spring back to life before your eyes while standing at the actual locations. You'll see where Chaplin put on that iconic derby and mustache for the first time in 1914, where Jim Morrison spent the summer of '65 writing poetry on a rooftop, where Schwarzenegger pumped iron, and much more. Then stroll along Venice's famous bike path, Ocean Front Walk, graffiti pit, basketball courts and murals. As the sun sets, you'll head over to see the festive holiday lights along the canals.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and water.
The tour begins and ends in front of 1601 Main Street. This is the (closed) Venice Post Office on the Traffic Circle at the intersection of Windward Avenue.
There are no restrooms at the beginning of the tour, and the first restroom stop is at least one hour into the tour.
