Vira Slywotzky has performed principal roles with Seattle Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Chelsea Opera, Center for Contemporary Opera, Sarasota Opera, Boston Midsummer Opera and Victor Herbert Renaissance Project - LIVE! She has sung concerts, recitals and cabarets in NYC venues from SubCulture to Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and on tour all over the United States. Internationally Slywotzky has been heard in Canada, France, Hungary, Sweden and Wales. A champion of new music, she has premiered more than 30 works.
In addition to being the creative force behind Vira & Friends since 2018, Slywotzky has served on the Board of the Berkshire Opera Festival since 2016. Slywotzky has twice been a New England Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and in 2009 was the sole representative of the United States at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Operating since 2018, Vira & Friends, became incorporated March 22, 2024 as a non-profit corporation in the State of NY.
Vira Slywotzky formed V&F for the educational and cultural purposes of presenting the performance of classical vocal music, in a comprehensible manner and at an affordable cost, to audiences who might not otherwise be able to access, be exposed to or be engaged with such music, and additionally to providing a platform for the programming of works by composers traditionally neglected by the Western canon such as female composers and composers of Ukrainian descent.
