Being a good fighter means being physically and mentally prepared for everything, from withstanding a spontaneous hailstorm of hard candy to maintaining composure around Clay "The Carpenter" Guida's romantic, curly locks. Keep body and mind at the ready, ringlets or no, with today's Groupon: for $45, you get 10 classes at Warrior Boxing in Downers Grove.
Competitive and recreational fighters harden bodies and speed reflexes for the ring in Warrior Bosing's arsenal of classes. Designed for battlers 14 and up, hour-long instruction in boxing, Kenpo Karate, submission grappling, and Ryu Ju Jitsu extend reach better than platform shoes sewn to telephone cords. Butterflies metamorphosing into bees, hornets, or robots disguised as Mike Tyson take transformative advice from Bob Miller and Jessica Storch, certified coaches in charge of Warrior Boxing and Knockout Boxing Club. With over 25 years experience training boxers, Coach Miller teams with Coach Storch, the 2010 and 2011 Chicago Golden Gloves Champion and a National Academy of Sports Medicine-certified personal trainer, to motivate newcomers through storms of jabs and hooks in respectful, supportive group trainings. Find the schedule of co-ed classes here and women's only here. Limbs desiring the ability to quickly overwhelm an opponent study grappling, Ju Jitsu, or American Kenpo Karate, a rapid-fire martial art that bewilders and disables better than a rhinoceros asking directions to the zoo. Since Kenpo classes are ranked, newcomers may only enroll in Yellow/Orange or Basics classes, while boxing, Ju Jitsu, and grappling are open to all.
The spic-and-span training center sports two boxing rings, heavy and speed bags, and an avalanche of tools to keep warriors from getting buried in their opponent's blows during class or in competition. Towels and shower facilities are also provided on site.
