For $30, today's side deal gets you one entry to Warrior Dash Central Texas on Sunday, November 21, plus lots of warrior-worthy loot (a $60 value). Hoards of racers are scheduled to depart on this 3.2-mile, scenic, challenging excursion across the landscape at many times throughout the day, and Groupon customers can choose from start times between 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the hour or half-hour. Space is limited, so you must register by November 8 to secure your preferred spot or the Groupon is forfeited.
This tricky trot through Central Texas terrain launches from 394 Pleasant Chapel Road, about 8 miles west of Bastrop and 30 miles east of Austin. Over the course of 3.2 miles, racers will weave their way through diverse terrain, including parts of the Black Forest, sticky wolf spider webs, and 11 total obstacles. Though the Warrior Dash provides challenges to even the fittest of fit athletes, mental toughness is the greatest tool for success, and people of all physical abilities can have fun and do well as long as they bring a good attitude and their best guts. All participants should arrive at least one hour before their departure time with a photo ID, a change of clothes (whatever you wear during the race will get filthy), and a signed copy of the participant waiver.
In addition to the race itself, participants receive a number of extras, including a chip (to record your time) to don during the race, a Warrior Dash T-shirt, a fuzzy warrior helmet and medal to don every day after the race, free water, post-race granola bars and bananas, and one beer ticket (for racers 21+) to cash in upon completion. Make sure to bring extra cash if you'd like to purchase additional beer or food, as outside sustenance is not allowed. Throughout the day, participants can catch live football games on the jumbotron. Soon after the race, participant times and photos of the event will be posted on Warrior Dash's website. Peruse the FAQ page to learn more.
Previous Warrior Dash events have been met with high-fives and fist-pumps by fitness freaks all over the country. Chicago Now raves about the Windy City's 2009 race, and five Yelpers give the Joliet, IL, event an average of 4.5 stars. Meanwhile, intrepid blogging duo The Running Couple share stories and videos from this year's Texas-set Warrior Dash:
- Yes, it was fun. It was hard at times, but mostly fun. Runners from all over the area had different reasons to try the Warrior Dash from " I got talked into it, " to " I needed a break from the usual races out there," my favorite, " I lost a bet in a drinking game." Whatever the reason, most said they would do it again. – David Wallach, Chicago Now
- All-in-all, it was a great event…and one we will never forget! – Team Hargrave, The Running Couple
