One of the most ancient of Christian hymns, the Magnificat, or Song of Mary, has captured the imagination of many Baroque and Classical composers, including the immortal Johann Sebastian Bach. The German master's interpretation is considered a festive one, and you'll hear just how it compares to his contemporaries' when the singers of the Washington Bach Consort perform four different versions of the Magnificat in one afternoon. Along with Bach's masterpiece, you'll also hear lovely compositions from Buxtehude, Fasch and Telemann. Which will be your favorite? Find out at the National Presbyterian Church in D.C.
Admission includes Talking Bach, a pre-concert lecture at 2 p.m. by Dr. Michael Marissen, and a post-concert reception immediately following the concert.
This program will run approximately one hour and 50 minutes, with an intermission.
