Water plays a starring role on this evening excursion past the city's famous memorials located along the National Mall's Reflecting Pool. Gliding along as a river, carrying barges through a former canal, flowing from fountains and reflecting one of the capital's most breath-taking vistas, water has provided both beauty and purpose to the National Mall area for more than a century. Once submerged under the Potomac River, the area covered by this walking tour was dredged from the silt of the 19th century to emerge as gorgeous parkland in the 20th century. As you encounter Constitution Gardens, the National World War II Memorial and other historic sites, a funny and informative guide will instruct you on neoclassical architecture, modern sculptures, haunting remembrances of war and more. You'll hear intriguing tales and fascinating facts about how each of these national institutions came to be. This walk along the Reflecting Pool also visits Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and Abraham Lincoln Memorial.
Tour length is approximately 2 hours.
