While any laid-back surfer can laugh at the corporate stiffs on their way to work, only the most back-laid of laid-back souls can laugh at the surfers for getting up so early to catch a silly wave. Achieve this level of laid-backitude over a plate of “da kine grinds” with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of beachside bites and libations at Wave House San Diego in Belmont Park. This Groupon can be used at any of the three eateries that dot this 40,000-square-foot boardwalk complex of wave machines, live music, and tanned bodies: Bar and Grill, North Shore Café, and Patio Grill.
Here’s a nifty run-down of each:
- Bar and Grill: Combine your collective love of tiki bars, fire pits, and general cabanaramics with a view of the sunset from the boardwalk. Feast on a selection of hammock-friendly eats from classic fish and chips ($9.25) to Da’ Shredder sandwich, which blends shredded chicken with house-made barbecue sauce ($8.50).
- North Shore Café: For breakfasting beach-goers, this café opens at 7 a.m. to welcome in the morning oceanrise and serves breakfast all day. Dig into a menu of Belgian waffles with bananas or strawberries ($7.75) or a fresh acai bowl to hit your ripened-fruit quota and top it with apple juice, bananas, and granola ($7.25).
- Patio Grill: Dine on a deck that both supports resting humans and then cooks crave-worthy foods. Treat yourself to 12 circular inches of veggie pizza ($6.50) or an equally round but different-tasting double cheeseburger ($5.50).
As you spend the day surfing artificial waves, ogling bikini babes, rocking out to live music, and wondering if this grim San Diego winter will ever end, Wave House’s beachside food and drinks will remind you of a slightly sunnier and slightly warmer time of year. There’s no buy limit, so you can fuel as much wintertime hedonism as you like.
While reviews for all three dining spots are tough to come by, Yelpers give their dining experience at the North Shore Café four stars: > * The atmosphere is great. Ocean view and close enough to the boardwalk for decent people watching – Em C. > * Everyone was very nice and we had fast service. The food is so yummy and unique. I wish I had one in my town – Heather N.
