What You'll Get
Though usually reserved for the menial tasks of hitchhiking, approving of things on the Internet, and forming the mouth on a sassy lamb hand puppet, bowling puts opposable thumbs to good use. Indulge your foremost finger with today's Groupon: for $17, you get three games of bowling for two plus shoe rental at Waveland Bowl on Western Avenue (up to a $36 value). This Groupon is only good for open bowling. Customers should call ahead for lane availability and take note that, while the Groupon can be used at any time, discount bowling before noon on a weekday does not require a Groupon, so evenings and weekend afternoons offer the best deal.
Bolstering bowlers for more than 50 years, Waveland Bowl's neon palace pays homage to its long history as a family-friendly Chicago bowling institution, bearing city-themed murals in its belly, and newly updated pin-pummeling gear in each lane. Rock-rollers strap on rented shoes (a $3 value per person), then make their way down the checkerboard path to one of 40 Brunswick Armour Plate lanes, gliding balls down surfaces slick enough to host a dry Slip 'N Slide party (a $1–$5 value per person per game). Cosmic bowling descends on Waveland Bowl Thursday through Monday, in the afternoons for glow-in-the-dark kids and in the evenings for grown folk and ghosts looking for a cloud of fog to date.
Open from 9 a.m. every day until 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, early birds and night owls can get their bowling fix. Alley Dogs proffers un-roll-able edibles to hungry bowlers, and a billiards and game room entertain restless boulder pushers between frames.
Waveland Bowl offers its own deals at certain times of the week that may be better values than this deal; plan ahead to make sure you're redeeming your Groupon at the most opportune time.

About Waveland Bowl
The pin pioneers at Waveland Bowl have provided Chicagoans with the latest in bowling amenities since its opening in 1959, when AMF's automatic pinsetters and Magic Triangle indicators superseded the rusted, tough-to-maintain human staff members behind every lane. Though the alley's original neon sign has since been replaced, the constant improvements have continued throughout the years, and the facility now boasts automatic bumpers on 40 Brunswick Armour Plate lanes and buys new pins every year. Throughout the week, the facility hosts open bowling and leagues for children and adults, and Thursday–Monday, cosmic bowling recreates the thrill of playing under the aurora borealis without the risk of polar bears ruining all the rental shoes.
