Paintball was originally created as a form of urban renewal in which armies of tweens would enter boring old cities and blast them into an eye-popping shade of Nickelodeon green. Celebrate the gloriousness of splatter battle with today's Groupon: for $27, you get admission for one, equipment, plus an additional 500 paintballs at Westworld Paintball Xtreme Pursuit Indoor Arena or Splatter Ranch Outdoor Arena, a $54 value (including tax).
One of the largest paintball facilities in the country, the 30,000-square-foot indoor arena has more than enough room to turn your wildest first-person shooter fantasies into a paint-splattered reality. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with inflatable obstacles, bunkers, sniper towers, and 500 tons of strategically placed dirt. The specialized lighting system creates scenario-specific illumination that can mimic everything from an overcast afternoon in Seattle to an apocalyptic wasteland where the only source of luminescence is strobe lights. Today's deal is also good at Splatter Ranch, should you prefer to dot your friends with a shower of pigment spheres under Mother Nature's air-ceiling. The outdoor facility boasts two shooting fields, featuring Sonoran shrubbery, natural gullies, and unnatural buildings. At each location, professional paintball referees act as a sentient Code of Hammurabi, carefully guarding against rule breakers, cheap shooters, and hypnotists.
With over 25 years of field experience, Westworld accommodates paintball warriors ages 10 and up of any skill level, all of whom will be divided into even teams by referees using omniscient-referee wisdom and advanced calculus. Admission is daylong, so shoot till your trigger finger is more callused than a grumpy Santa Claus. Parents of paintballers under 18 need to drop off their kids with permission slips in hand. If visiting the indoor facility, parents are also welcome to stay and use the free WiFi to upload their brood getting their first kill to the wily Internet. Westworld Paintball Xtreme Pursuit Indoor Arena has open game hours from Thursday through Sunday, while Splatter Ranch has open game hours on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) only.
In 2008, the Phoenix New Times called Westworld the Best Place to Splatter Your Friends. Four Insider Pagers give it five stars, and three Yahoo! Locals give it four. PBreview.com reviewers support how friendly the facilities are for beginners:
- Westworld also has a 20-acre open-air Splatter Ranch course in Scottsdale where you can stage a showdown outdoors. Both venues feature fully stocked pro shops and technicians who can supply you with air guns, CO2 canisters, protective gear, and other equipment necessary to rain paint down on your buds (or any other n00b that gets in your way). – Phoenix New Times
- For any body from a novice to an expert this place has it all! They have tons of places to hide and a great indoor arena. – Amy M., Insider Pages
- Westworld is a great place to take your family Paintballing. I've taken my friends and family and found it to be alot of fun. It has a new friendly staff that is totally about helping you have the best experience possible. – Phx Paintballer, Yahoo! Local
