What You'll Get
Before social media let groups of friends continually broadcast their whereabouts, custom T-shirts were the only way to let everyone know you successfully ate an entire 5-pound steak. Make a friendly statement with today’s Groupon: for $125, you get a one-day screen-printing class at What’s The Norm?. Classes begin January 6 and are held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through June 17, 2012.
Crafting custom T-shirts for UFC & MMA fighters to everyday fashion-enthusiasts, What’s The Norm?’s trio of designing gurus tutors students in the ways of screen printing. Coffee and pastries await incoming artists filing into a screen-printing session beginning at 9 a.m. To kick things off, pupils head to darkrooms to prep and degrease screens before printing out film sheets of their elected design, choosing from the studio’s cache of preselected images or their own albums of photos and heliographic engravings. Custom images will be screen-coated, burned, and washed onto two blank T-shirts before teachers wrap up artistic endeavors with a narration on the printing process and color theory. Furthermore, they’ll provide each inspired artist with lunch and application forms for admittance into the secret T-shirt-designer cabal.
The staff recommends that guests wear less than classy duds, as clothing may be splattered by chemicals, inks, and cream pies thrown by one to three stooges masquerading as official employees.
