At the age at which most children learn to speak, Mozart had already composed four symphonies, restored 11 classic cars, and built a robot to play against in squash. Catch up to Mozart's accomplishments with today's Groupon: for $60, you get five consecutive weeks of weekly music lessons at Where Music Begins, Academy of Music in University Heights (a $120 value).
Where Music Begins, Academy of Music instructs pupils young and old in the euphonic arts of music making in small, fun-focused group classes that foster love of music and emphasize the joy of playing an instrument. With this deal, students can enroll in a five-week class in any of the following instruments: piano (5 years old and up); voice (10 years old and up); guitar (7 years old and up); stringed instruments, including violin, viola, vielle, and fiddle (3 years old and up); and mariachi (call about age ranges). Piano and mariachi band lessons are group lessons and last 50 minutes each; all other instruments are taught in private or two-person lessons that last 30 minutes each.
Piano lessons make use of the Simply Music program, focusing on developing a personal connection with the keyboard before moving on to more difficult tasks such as reading music, which is often tricky thanks to its lack of question marks and umlauts. Over the course of the lessons, students start learning chords and developing a library of musical pieces ranging in style from pop to classical, all while working in a way that stresses personal creativity and fun. Lessons for other instruments draw from each individual instructor's methods to help students retain music as a lifelong companion, unlike carnival-won goldfish.
