Whiskey Mansion Bed and Breakfast
Before famed architecture firm Eckel & Mann won the competition to design Saint Louis's new city hall, it drew up the plans for the building that would become Whiskey Mansion Bed and Breakfast in Saint Joseph, located in northwest Missouri. Built in 1885, the mansion has since been artfully restored, though it still maintains some of its turn-of-the-century elements. With its sitting rooms dressed in golden wallpaper and red-velvet couches, it has a distinct Gothic feel. The building’s charming Old-World vibe attracted the makers of the 2008 film Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula, who used the mansion as a set.
The house features a grand parlor, formal dining room, music room, and library. Victorian touches can be found throughout the house, especially in the six guest rooms. Each is individually decorated with an antique wooden bed and has a private bathroom with a pedestal sink and clawfoot soaking tub.
