Certified guides captain whitewater rafts occupied by up to nine people on trips down the Hudson River. Riders gear up with provided helmets and wetsuits before careening down the rapids in a sturdy raft. During calm periods between thrilling bouts of whitewater, rafters gaze at wildlife dwelling amongst the 500-foot granite cliffs and dense forest lining the riverbank. They can also take a swimming break at Jump Rock, a huge boulder that serves as a launch point for cannonballs and soapbox speeches. Along the way, guides pass out a snack to tide people over until the evening’s cookout dinner over an open flame.<p>
