Q:

I hear a lot of people have issues with night vision after they recieve the surgery. How common is this? What is the corrective measure for this to ensure I can still drive at night?

Rebecca C.  asked on  Jun 28, 2013

A:

Hi again, Rebecca, Glare and halos after LASIK, if a patient notices at all, are usually a short term effect during the initial couple months of healing. Lubricating eye drops usually help during this stage. Generally, the severity is not to the point where it interferes with daily routines or night driving. There were more issues with this before the advancements in technology that we use today. Not to mention, Whiting Clinic has more diagnostic equipment to identify issues before they may arise and lasers to perform the actual LASIK procedure than most other providers so we are able to tailor the treatment specifically to the individual in order to better avoid such concerns. Again, please call into our clinic if you'd like to speak with a doctor further about this or anything else that might be on your mind. Of course, these are the items discussed at the free LASIK consultation so that's the best way to get information specific to your situation.

Q:

Is Dr. Whiting a member of the ACS?

Rebecca C.  asked on  Jun 28, 2013

A:

Hi Rebecca, Thanks for your question. Dr. Whiting is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Regarding your question about ACS, we haven't found much value in being part of this association. Dr. Whiting would more than qualify since there is little criteria (only need to have been in practice for 1 year and the surgeon must be certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology). No outcome analysis is required or proof of practice quality. To us, it seems that being a member of ACS is more of marketing tool that sounds more impressive than it turns out to be. Hope that helps. Of course, call us 952-475-3787 if you have any other questions regarding Dr. Whiting's qualifications or anything else.

Q:

Can I have the candidacy exam before I buy the groupon?

Jayme K.  asked on  Jun 27, 2013

A:

Hi Jayme, The best way to find out if we have any last minute openings is to call the clinic scheduling line at 952-475-3787. Otherwise, the Goupon is 100% refundable if you have the exam afterward and do not qualify for LASIK. We look forward to hearing from you! Whiting Clinic

Q:

Good Morning, I have been considering LASIK for some time now and am unsure if it is something I should consider. I am currently 41 and am now at a point where many times I take my glasses off to see better for reading or doing anything that requires sight near my face (within 18 inches of my eyes or so). I am nearsighted. During my last eye examination I learned that this is normal aging of the eye, where the eye loses its elasticity, thus if I have LASIK to adjust for near sightedness, I would lose my close-up vision and would need reading glasses. Is LASIK worth it if I end up needing reading glasses for anything close? Thanks.

Steven M.  asked on  Jun 26, 2013

A:

Hi Steven, Thank you for your question. Many of our happy LASIK patients are over the age of 40 and had to consider the same things as you. You are not alone! An option to gain both near and far vision would be monovision LASIK. Joe Schmit, with Channel 5 Eyewitness News, had monovision LASIK with Dr. Whiting just last week and his before/after testimonial videos are up on our Facebook page if you'd like to check them out. It's really a personal decision, if it's "worth it to you", and something we would discuss with you individually at the free LASIK exam.

Q:

What is the age requirements? My daughter is 19 years old. I would love for her to get this. also, I had Lasik done by Dr Whiting 10+ years ago when he was in Maple Grove office. Is my life enhancement still valid with him?

Laurie V.  asked on  Jun 26, 2013

A:

Hi Laurie, Good to hear from you. We'd love to see your daughter! The age requirement is 18 years, per the FDA. At the time of the exam, we make sure of a stable prescription before proceeding. That's the main factor when it comes to a younger person having LASIK. Look forward to seeing you both soon! Whiting Clinic

Q:

If I buy this Groupon, and go in for my consultation and get told that, for some reason or another, that I can't have Lasik surgery performed, what happs to my $299 I spent on this?

Elizabeth S.  asked on  Jun 26, 2013

A:

Hi Elizabeth, per the Groupon details, "Consultation required; non-candidates will be refunded" means you will get your $299 refunded in the event you cannot have LASIK. Plus, the consultation is free so there's nothing to lose!

Q:

I've always wanted to get Lasik and if I were to do this I would want better then 20/20. I would want 20/15. Would that cost extra or is there only certain candidates for that?

Taisha L.  asked on  Jun 25, 2013

A:

Hi Taisha, Thanks for your inquiry. While many of our patients receive 20/15 vision after LASIK, like any medical procedure, there are variables and we cannot say for certain that LASIK would give you 20/15 vision. If your eyes are capable of seeing 20/15 (not everyone's are), then we would do the procedure according to what statistically would give you the best outcome. The individual patient's healing response plays a part in the overall end result. The best way to find out what percentage you'd have of achieving 2015 vision would be assessed and discussed at the free LASIK exam. There is more that goes into a satisfactory outcome than the vision recording, which would also be discussed with you as it relates to your individual case. There is no cost difference based on vision outcome.

Q:

Hi, my husband has had his consultation and is schedule for LASIK next week. He is only having one eye done. Can he use this Groupon? Cynthia

Cynthia E.  asked on  Jun 25, 2013

A:

Hi Cynthia, Thanks for asking. Groupon was only able to structure an offer for both eyes so, unfortunately, this is not an option for someone only having LASIK on one eye. So sorry, there's nothing we can do since that's the way it was set up. Whiting Clinic

Q:

I literally just had Lasik done this last Friday the 21st- I used Credit Care. Is there a way that I can still use this savings? or offset the price I paid? Thanks!

lynn v.  asked on  Jun 25, 2013

A:

Hi Lynn, We understand, however, that's the way a Groupon works. The savings is only available for the timeframe that it's run through Groupon. It might be different if this were an internal offer rather than a 3rd party offering but as is we need to stick to the Groupon guidelines. Hope you're still happy with your results, and know that our price, what you paid, is the best/lowest out there even without the Groupon.
