Q:

How can you puncture the skin with a needle and it not hurt...If I get a thorn n my skin it hurts or a bee sting? Should I be scared. I hate to get shots.

Arthur D.  asked on  Sep 5, 2013

A:

Our acupuncturists are very gentle, and the needles are hair thin. Most patients find the treatments very relaxing and painless. It is not like getting a shot!

Q:

can acupuncture be used to treat glaucoma; I was recently diagnosed with borderline glaucoma

Catherine B.  asked on  Sep 5, 2013

A:

Acupuncture is very useful for eyesight issues. However, the treatment protocol to treat glaucoma is ideally a series of close together treatments (2-3 per week) over a long period of time to notice a significant change. Weekly treatments may be useful in maintaining your current eyesight status.

Q:

do you provide acupressure treatment?

lwp123  asked on  Sep 4, 2013

A:

We often use acupressure techniques with pediatric cases. In most other patients, they get the best effect of treatment using acupuncture. We do not offer reflexology. We do have massage services available.

Q:

interested in acupuncture to cease smoking. does this deal cover the treatment? if not, how much is such treatment if you address such procedure?r

Judy R.  asked on  Sep 4, 2013

A:

Acupuncture is a great tool to help quit smoking - but it is not a magical cure for this addiction. This deal can cover smoking cessation treatments. The 2 treatment deal would get you on your way. I usually see people at least 5 times for smoking cessation. Our usual price is $75/treatment.

Q:

I am just getting over shingles. Would acupuncture benefit me?

Carol A.  asked on  Sep 3, 2013

A:

It could. Chinese medicine sees shingles as an invasion of "damp heat" and there are acupoints that help rid the body of damp heat. There are also treatments that help to realign the immune system - known as "wei qi" or "outside qi" in Chinese.

Q:

I have lower back problems and have had acupuncture to help. Can I have this session where I chose? I.E. my lower back?

Joanne M.  asked on  Sep 3, 2013

A:

While we strive to treat the whole person - we can of course focus only on your lower back. However, there are many acupoints on the lower limbs that help with inflammation, blood circulation, etc. It's not exactly just "sticking the needle where it hurts" for best results. The Groupons are available only for acupuncture at our new Fox Chapel location. It is easy to find .1150 Freeport Rd. Just past the intersection of Freeport and Fox Chapel Road. Please see our website for more information. www.wholisticacupuncture.com.
