Horses symbolize a wild, uncontrollable spirit, which is why rebellious teenagers sport mane-like mohawks and eat even the cores of their apples. Take the reins with this Groupon.
Choose From Three Options
- $35 for two 40-minute private horseback riding lessons (a $70 value)
- $49 for one day of summer camp (a $100 value)
- $129 for three days of summer camp (a $275 value)
Camps introduce youngsters to the ins and outs of operating a horse farm. Groups begin each morning with rotating chores around the farm while each child takes their turn in a private riding lesson. After lunch, kids put their skills on display during a group ride. Participants can expect to fill water troughs, muck stalls, and feed the horses. Bringing lunch is required and a change of clothes is recommended.
Willow Run Farm
Though she had been an avid rider since she was a little girl, Amy Smith of Willow Run Farm didn’t find her true calling as an equestrian until she turned 20. It was at this age that she began a job at a rehabilitation center, where she took a hands-on role in caring for horses in need and nursing them back to health. Amy quickly adopted a holistic approach to horsemanship, a passion that continues to enrich her career. Today, Amy teaches her students the whole spectrum of caring for horses, everything from grooming to horse health and safety—as opposed to focusing solely on riding techniques or hair-spraying the horse’s mane into a mohawk. Above all, Amy instills responsibility, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment in each of her riders.
