Working under the credo that standup should be anything intelligent, original, and out of the ordinary, Comedy at the Mette brings together some of the Windy City's best standups for a once-a-month evening of unchecked hilarity. On August 11, comedian Jeff Steinbrunner takes the mic, bringing his over-the-top energy to the night's emcee duties. Andy Kaufman Award semifinalist and headliner Joe Fernandez coaxes belly laughs with deadpan reflections on dating and his run-ins with the police, quickly twisting stories into darkly absurdist punch lines without missing a beat. Supporting funnyman Adam Burke charms audiences with his alluring Northern Irish accent and remarkable intelligence, musing on world events and inducing guffaws with playful word games.

Wilmette Theatre

Renovated in 2006, the nearly century-old Wilmette Theatre entertains theatergoers with a rotating slate of current and classic offerings, including Hollywood blockbusters and niche art films. Cylindrical light from a whirring projector flickers across two auditoriums, where movie-going duos can snack on buttery tubs of popcorn while sipping a soda and whispering spoilers into the facility’s pristine Soundfold curtain. The Wilmette underwent a key renovation in 2006, fortifying the century-old venue’s commitment to quality art with fresh coats of paint, an overhauled concessions center, and screenings of feature-length still lifes.

Funny, funny stuff!. A great time and a great deal. Easy location in and out access no hassles or $25 parking fee like in Chitown, easy parking right out the door and comfortable setting. I've seen a nice variety of acts come through the Mette.
