Rivers were humanity's first true highways, transporting goods, driving economies, and enabling humorous kayak jams. Navigate historic waterways with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a sunset cruise from Wilmington Water Tours in Wilmington (a $25 value).
Setting out from the Cape Fear Riverwalk, Wilmington Water Tours' black-water excursions provide an inimitable way to see the cypress-lined banks of American history. The two-hour Sunset Cruise sweetly slips away from the shores at sunset, offering unparalleled views of downtown Wilmington as yellow and crimson hues paint the sky and lights begin to twinkle on the shoreline. A pleasant evening soundtrack is provided by the onboard sound system, as the boat serenely floats past wildlife and runaway child stars. After dancing, mingling, and stargazing, the boat returns at 9 p.m., allowing seafarers ample time to explore all of the nightlife in downtown Wilmington. For a tipplingly terrific trip, enrich the experience with a cocktail or a vial of mermaid tears from the boat-borne bar. Board your adventure 15 minutes before departure, which takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday.
