What You'll Get
Drinking wine is a popular activity that sometimes makes people believe they’re funnier, smarter, and 2 feet taller than they actually are. Indulge in these harmless illusions with today's Groupon: for $35, you get two seats at a two-hour wine tasting class of your choice at the Wine Shoe. See the sidebar for class options.
The Wine Shoe is a stunning boutique adorned with rich wooden wine racks that rise to the ceiling, where a gleaming chandelier illuminates a wide, rustic tasting table. Romantic twosomes and superhero duos are invited to pull up handsome, high-backed chairs to learn the history, tasting profiles, and food pairings for some of the Wine Shoe's elegant vintages. Wine tasting classes (a $35 value per seat, unless otherwise noted) will be held on weekday evenings. Meet up and get settled from 6:45 p.m. to 7 p.m., and enjoy a class to the very last drop.
Jumpstart a newfound hobby-habit with Wine 101 to learn about the different styles of wine and how to taste them with class. Wine 101 makes a stellar date night excursion, that rivals a candle-light dinner at the DMV. If you can't decide which class to take, stock up on multiple Groupons and check the course calendar to take an array of the Wine Shoe's relaxed and intimate classes.
Wine experts will guide students through each tasting, and because classes will be limited to up to 16 participants, there will be plenty of opportunities to express strongly held wine opinions, discuss wines with fellow classmates, and ask the experts all sorts of grapey queries such as "What are grapes?" and "Are raisins just grapes who were drained by vampires?" Whether you're a novice or connoisseur, the Wine Shoe's classes will delight your palate and fortify your body and brain with wine and wine knowledge.
- Floor-to-ceiling wine racks adorn the "Wine Wall." The front and rear of the shop have expansive windows. Accents abound in the shop, with the most striking being a large vault hung from the ceiling with a bronze and crystal chandelier glittering underneath. A 12-foot rustic wood table sits below the chandelier. Because the Wine Shoe cares about the earth, the space is filled with reclaimed items and environmentally friendly finishes. – Atlanta

About Wine Shoe
When Wine Shoe owners Nora and Shannon Wiley started planning the shop's design, they wanted something that would blend their worldly travels with the historic culture of the surrounding Castleberry Hill neighborhood. The result was promptly recognized by Atlanta magazine, which compared Wine Shoe to a "private wine cellar in France stocked with wines from all over the world."
Today, the facility's floor-to-ceiling wine wall stands as a new challenge to rock climbers and as a stunning backdrop to an assortment of wine-related activities, including classes that drew more than 3,000 total students during 2011. Many of those students gathered around Wine Shoe's 12-foot rustic table, where, sitting beneath a glistening bronze and crystal chandelier, they paired sips with scrumptious hunks of education.
The shop carries more than 150 different wines, the majority of which come from small producers. It also keeps its door open to pooches, as Nora and Shannon's security dog, Beeren, is always looking for new buddies with whom to discuss the nuanced flavors of rawhide bones.
