True wine connoisseurs teach themselves to distinguish varietals, identify flawed bottles, and cry pure chardonnay. Become one with the grape with today's Groupon: for $59, you get an in-home wine-tasting event for up to 16 people from Wines for Humanity (a $250 value). Wines for Humanity will travel to any home within 40 miles of Milwaukee's city limits.
Bringing together friends and family, Wines for Humanity hosts in-home tastings dedicated to educating individuals about fine wine while raising funds for local charities. Led by a professional wine advisor, tasting events coat palates with flavor-packed sips of seven exclusive vintages, teaching novice epicureans how to taste, discuss, and pair fine wine with food. Pupils hone the five-point wine-tasting technique, and learn to judge vintages based on color, aroma, and face splashability.
Wine for Humanity stocks homes with the necessary glasses and wines before the tasting event, and encourages hosts to prepare complementary cheese and crackers for pairing practice. Each tasting brings together a circle of up to 16 oenophiles for a reason other than group bottle-juggling practice. For any bottle of wine purchased during the sampling ($20 average/bottle), Wines for Humanity will donate $2-to-$4 to local charities that help pay rent and utilities for families on the brink of homelessness.
Wines for Humanity
Anton Steinhart has always been a philanthropic man—one who had always dreamed of helping others, but wasn't sure how to use his skills to make a real difference. Having spent years in the wine distribution industry, one day it finally dawned on him: why not put that knowledge toward fundraising to help prevent homelessness, a cause close to his heart? That's how Wines for Humanity started. Today, the nonprofit functions as an educational, in-home tasting experience, wherein a knowledgeable staffer travels to a client's home to conduct a private tasting party. Guests and hosts are also given the opportunity to order any of the wines they enjoyed to later drink at home or mount like a prize on the living room wall.
