It was a beautiful home, larger than it looked from the outside, decorated with imagination. All the guides in the house were friendly and informative. Great experience!

About Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse

The 20th Anniversary Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse was built in 1902 with an addition in 1909. This cozy example of an English cottage of the Queen Anne Period was designed by Alexander C. Eschweiler for the family of Clarence and Margaret Sawyer Falk. The picturesque dwelling has several charming characteristics along with over 6,500 square feet of living space, five fireplaces, five bedrooms—one of which will become a walk-in closet—and six bathrooms.

Multiple gable roofs and a handsome Shavian bay window decorate the first level, while brick and dark shingles cover the exterior façade. It features an asymmetrical shape and double hung windows with small, framed square panes on the upper sash. Tall chimneys are composed of decorative Chicago red brick with the east chimney stack comprised of non-standard size bricks featuring an intricate, over-lapping design, making it an architectural accent to the home. A limestone and leaded glass bay window complex from a 14th century Belgian monastery highlights the dining room, which also features a unique plaster ceiling design of hops vines, which refers to the Falk family’s early brewery business. Quarter-sawn oak floors, a beautiful oak staircase, and bottle glass windows can be found in other parts of the house.

WBCS, Inc. was founded in 1998 as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its mission is to support early-stage breast cancer and prostate cancer research at The Medical College of Wisconsin.

Since its founding, WBCS has donated over $6.15 million to MCW for promising research and to endow the WBCS Professor of Breast Cancer Research. Promising breast cancer and prostate cancer research by past WBCS grant recipients has led to over $45.4 million in additional competitive extramural research grants to MCW.

Participants in the Showhouse For a Cure ensures continuing WBCS support of the MCW's Cancer Center research efforts.
