Autumn is the only season where pumpkins are judged by their personality as well as their performance in the swimsuit competition. Get to know Fall's finest with today's Groupon: for $15, you get two tickets to the Harvest Dance on Saturday, September 24 at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport (a $30 value).
Wolfe's Neck Farm's historic Mallett Barn, which is set on 626 acres of saltwater farmland, rocks and rolls during its 15th annual Harvest Dance. Set spurs to jangling from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the dancing segment of the evening and applaud as Sean Mencher and His Rhythm Kings end their jazz, bluegrass, and rockabilly set with an epic cow-milking solo. Gritty's runs the bar for the evening, slinging drinks from its lineup of signature brews.
Wolfe's Neck Farm founders Lawrence M.C. and Eleanor Houston Smith came to Maine in the 1940s after unsuccessful attempts to grow corn on the streets of Philadelphia. They left the saltwater farm to the community for the purposes of education in sustainable agricultural and outdoor recreation, including camping, hiking, and kayaking along the Maine coast.
Wolfe's Neck Farm
Wolfe's Neck Farm's 626 acres are dotted with campsites—some with ocean views, others in forested inland spots, and still others nestled next to electricity and water hookups. For a more upscale stay, visitors can hole up in the oceanside cottages, complete with galley kitchens. However, camping is only the beginning of an adventure on the 50-year-old campgrounds. Hiking trails criss-cross the terrain and the waterfront provides ample opportunities for fishing, kayaking or seeing what a hug from a fish feels like. The property also offers bike rentals or family farm tours and is located just five miles from the LLBean flagship store.
