The dimples on a golf ball help it fly farther with greater accuracy, just as the dimples on a baby help it steal candy from gullible strangers. Find your adorably sporty sweet spots with today's Groupon: for $52, you get two rounds of 18-hole golf with a cart at Woodbine Golf Course (up to a $118 value), located in Homer Glen.
Designed by PGA golf pro Gordon Cunningham, the 6,020-yard Woodbine Golf Course envelops putters, chippers, and drivers in lush trees and quiet, natural-grass-preservation areas as they walk on fully watered bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways. Golfers hit draw shots around fairway-hugging trees while avoiding the course's five ponds and 21 bunkers. Plotted to challenge those with a low-to-high handicap or those putting with a Poseidon's trident, Woodbine's fairways and greens add up to a 68.2 course rating from the white tees, and a slope rating of 115. Golfers with today's Groupon will also save sapped shoulders by loading bags in a golf cart and zipping along fairways.
The clubhouse surrounds weary golfers with the comforts of a bar, stone fireplace, and flat-screen TVs, all under a vaulted ceiling with exposed wood beams. Diners can munch on sandwiches and salads while tabulating scores and phoning the Supreme Court to judge mulligan disputes. The pro shop is replete with balls, gloves, and golf attire for purchase and complete club sets are available for rental (not included with today's deal).
Woodbine Golf Course
Designed in a country-club style by PGA professional Gordon Cunningham, Woodbine Golf Course welcomes linkspeople with 6,020 yards of challenging tracts populated with bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens. The layout’s five ponds, natural-grass preservation areas, and clusters of grabby-branched trees have beckoned both low- and high-handicap golfers for nearly a quarter of a century. A contorted fairway and aquatic hazard make the 14th hole the course’s hardest, and the 4th hole ranks second hardest with a tricky dogleg left whose elbow hosts a sand bunker that lures distractible golfers with a siren song of sandcastles.
After games, golfers can retreat to Woodbine's clubhouse. At the Timber Restaurant and Bar, flat-screen TVs flicker above a long wooden bar, diners feast on pasta and pot roast, and a stone fireplace provides the ideal backdrop for tales about 9-irons that transformed into 10-irons with hard work and a little gumption.
