Mounted police opt for equine transportation so that they don’t have to deal with the squad car's wailing thirst for gas and justice. Harness real horsepower with today's Groupon: for $89, you get three one-hour, semiprivate horseback-riding lessons at Woodlands Equestrian Club in Tomball (a $180 value).
Woodlands Equestrian Club's experienced instructors, including Grand Prix 2011 champion Marta Renilla and Grand Prix trainer Daniel Bedoya, spiritually unite students and steeds during lessons that cover a variety of riding techniques. Classes of up to four students converge on the club's manicured training grounds for one-hour lessons that focus on English riding and attaining a balanced seat through basic dressage training. Students learn such skills as proper body positioning and how to color-coordinate outfits with a horse, as well as jumping principles, horse care and management, and groundwork. Students may bring their own horse, be paired with a trusty partner from the club's stable, or go the do-it-yourself route by wrapping a bicycle in brown felt.
