The Scouting Report

Following the World Baseball Classic’s round-robin-style first round, eight countries remain to compete for a trip to the tournament semifinals. Taking place at Marlins Park in Miami, Pool 2 of the second round ups the ante, matching teams from North America, Latin America, and Europe against each other in a set of fierce games. On Thursday, March 14, the Dominican Republic and the United States square off in a contest that will help decide who joins Japan and the Netherlands in the semifinal round; whichever team wins is guaranteed to advance. The loser, however, must defeat Puerto Rico in order to stay alive for the final, decisive game on Saturday. See the full tournament schedule here.<p>
