About Yankee Air Museum
In 1941, Ford Motor Company built Willow Run Airport to serve as an airfield for their B-24 Bomber Plant, which was the first manufacturing complex to employ Ford's mass production technique for aircrafts instead of automobiles. Today, on the same grounds where aircraft innovators and brave pilots used to walk, Yankee Air Museum teaches visitors the history of aviation technology and its role in past wars through interactive displays and artifacts. Read on to learn more about the museum:
- Size: The museum's Collections & Exhibits building splits its 47,000-square-feet of floorspace between permanent and rotating displays, restoration projects, and other attractions.
- Don't Miss: History buffs can view aviation through the lens of combat with exhibits on World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War.
