“Even the City that Never Sleeps needs a nap,” jokes Nicolas Ronco, the owner and CEO of YeloSpa, which serves as an urban oasis for New York’s overworked and overtired masses. In addition to offering a host of familiar spa services, YeloSpa welcomes clients inside for peaceful power naps so that they needn’t rely on fake solutions to fatigue, such as caffeine. Today’s Reserve selection introduces you to Ronco’s brand of rejuvenation. Choose between two options:

$95 for a 90-minute spa package

 • Either a 60-minute massage or a 60-minute facial treatment
 • 30-minute YeloNap in the “zero-gravity” position

$179 for a 2.5-hour spa package

 • 60-minute aromatherapy massage with take-home Essence of Vali massage oil
 • 60-minute facial treatment
 • 30-minute YeloNap in the “zero-gravity” position

Clients choose a scented Essence of Vali massage oil to use during aromatherapy massages; after the treatment, they can take the rest of the oil home as a gift. All Groupon purchasers receive 20% off any product purchased on the day of their visit, as well as a 20% discount on any service booked for a future visit.

YeloSpa welcomes guests into a boldly colored cocoon of maroon and yellow—colors chosen by Ronco based on Tibetan monks’ robes and sashes. The colors relate to specific chakras in the body, with maroon representing the chakra of vision and intuition, and yellow representing the revitalizing spirit of the heart chakra.

Once inside private nap rooms, or YeloCabs, clients gain total control over the atmosphere. They can tailor the color of the lighting, the soundtrack, and even the aroma to their personal preferences. “You can be in the jungle or you can be in a coffee shop in Vienna,” says Ronco. The cushioned, leather chairs recline back so far that clients’ legs are elevated over their heart, which creates a mild sense of weightlessness, gently slows heart rates, and helps guests sink into a deep state of relaxation. With these conditions, falling asleep is effortless.

There are no alarms to signal the end of the rejuvenating 30-minute power nap. Instead, LED lights gradually illuminate the room, mimicking a sunrise. Ronco compares this experience to slowly returning to the surface after scuba diving. An abrupt transition can be an unwelcome—and potentially unhealthy—shock for the body’s systems. However, by gently easing clients out of their sleep cycle, the simulated sunrise allows the brain to naturally prepare the rest of the body for wakefulness.

The spa’s more traditional services are completely customized to each individual based on an initial consultation. Massage therapists can incorporate everything from relaxing Swedish strokes and deep-tissue pressure to more focused reflexology techniques, depending on the client’s needs. Aestheticians use customized blends of balms and salves from the Eminence Organic and Kerstin Florian lines of skincare products. Their facials can even include micro-current treatments, LED therapy, or microdermabrasion if necessary.
