Q:

I purchased a Groupon yesterday to convert one 3" reel to reel movie taken in the 70s. It is the only tape I have. The deal I bought is for 6 3" REELS. Since I have only one could I sent slides or video camera tapes too so I can get the use of the full amount of money I paid? Thank you! Angela

A:

Great question, Angela! The deal is for you to spend the $60 any way you wish for our supported media types. So, the $60's worth is dependent on the quantity and type of media you would like to transfer. Since you pay a la carte for your order, you can have combinations of the supported media types as well (different media types will go on different DVDs, but they can be placed in the same order). To calculate what you can get out of the Groupon with the media that you have, you can visit our page here and tell us what you have; it will automatically give you a quote depending on the quantity you enter! You can also view our pricing list on that page. I hope this helps!

Q:

2nd request for answer to my question: I have one 3" movie reel from the 1970's. My Groupon is for 6 of this type of reel but I only have the one. Could I send 3 camcord tapes or VCR tapes to apply to the coupon I bought?

Angela B.  asked on  Feb 9, 2013

A:

Hi Angela, Thanks for your question. It takes us a couple of hours to go through all the questions we get so my apologies that we were not able to respond immediately. The Groupon is for $60 in transfer value across all of our transfer services -- so it is not just for 6 reels. As noted in the Groupon description, those are simply examples of how you can spend your $60. If you go to our order center at http://direct.yesvideo.com/telluswhatyouhave.aspx you can use the order calculator to determine exactly what your unique set of materials will cost to transfer. Then you would apply the $60 Groupon value using the coupon code at checkout. So, you can send in whatever set of materials to get transferred you like. If your cost is more than the value of the Groupon then you simply pay the difference with a credit card. Please remember, the examples on Groupon are to give you an idea of what you could transfer and what it would cost and do not include shipping or sales tax. you can read a full FAQ specifically written for Groupon customers at http://www.yesvideo.com/groupon.

Q:

Our family has a bunch of VHS tapes that have footage of all of us in them. Can we each purchase a deal, individually, and send in 3 tapes each? Also, if the VHS quality on some aren't great (25 yrs old), are you able to make it better?

Jennifer T.  asked on  Feb 8, 2013

A:

Yes, you may each purchase your own Groupon. Transferring the tapes does not improve the quality or state that they're currently in.

Q:

I have about 225 slides to convert. After you do 122 for the deal, can you give me an estimate for the balance? Thank you.

Carol F.  asked on  Feb 8, 2013

A:

Another hundred slides would be about $49.

Q:

I have some very old films that are brittle, can you convert these?

Rich N.  asked on  Feb 6, 2013

A:

Thanks for the question, Rich. If we find that the film received is too weak or brittle to transfer, it would be returned unprocessed at no charge. Unfortunately, we would be unable to determine if this would be the case with your film without first receiving your film and physically examining it. Q:

Is this deal good for the small cassette tapes that are used in camcorders? I have several of these I need converted, some of our baby girl that passed away and we have been scared to touch them. Also, I'm sure the answer is no, but is there any way to retrieve something that may have been taped over? My mother-in-law taped over our daughter's birth and her dad never got to see it because it was in bootcamp for the Marines.

Courtney C.  asked on  Feb 6, 2013

A:

You can see the various tape formats here.

Unfortunately, once something is taped over, it cannot be retrieved. I'm so sorry.
