Q:

I have the mini DV tapes that are 60 minutes each. The deal is "Services include conversion of videotapes into DVDs ($57.97 for three two-hour tapes)". Since my tapes are one hour each instead of two hours, will I be able to send in six tapes equaling six hours of DVD footage for the $57.97? When I put them in on the website as sending in six tapes, it quoted me a price at just under $120 for the six tapes.

A:

Hi Jennifer, Thanks for your question. The example on the details is just that, an example of how you could spend your $60 on YesVideo services. However, each tape is $19.99 per DVD -- up to 2 hours (one DVD only holds 2 hours of tape footage). We can't combine videotapes so by inputting 6 tapes into the order estimate you're getting the correct price of $119.94 before shipping and tax and would receive 6 DVDs of each tape's footage. I hope that answers your question!

Q:

I have VHS tapes which have already been converted from Regular and Super 8. How does a conversion to DVD effect their quality, since they were old when converted the first time? Can you make them look "better"?

Sherry F.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Thanks for the question, Sherry. Video tape transfers are straight transfers; this means that aside from improving tracking issues, the footage cannot be enhanced. If you still have the original film, we would recommend submitting this instead, as we are able to work more on the quality. With film, our skilled technicians repair splices and clean dust and dirt, stabilize images and reduce flicker for better viewing quality, enhance the footage to improve color and lighting, and digitally remove blank footage and leader film. Q:

I have a lot of pictures and old time slides to convert to digital format. Do you convert these to jpg format? Could you convert them to 600 DPI resolution? If not, what is the resolution you use? Thanks!

Jay R.  asked on  Feb 4, 2013

A:

Thank you for the question, Jay! Yes! With our image transfers, we produce a data DVD with highest quality digital JPEG files available for you to view and copy on your computer. The scanning industry has always used the term “DPI” to define the quality of scanning output, primarily because this is the way the machines define their quality. In our case, each image is transferred at 12 megapixel resolution-- one of the highest in the industry in quality.
