Q:

Do you charge based on the number of VHS tapes submitted for conversion or the length of the video on each one? I have several tapes I'd like to convert to DVD, but not all of them are full. Some have only 30 minutes or so of footage on them.

Theresa H.  asked on  Feb 6, 2013

A:

Thanks for the question, Theresa. Our pricing is $19.99 per video tape, up to two hours. We do not merge tapes together, so each tape submitted will be transferred on to its own DVD and have a base price of $19.99. Q:

Are you able to correct color and clarity in 8 mm films? Or are they copied as is?

Judith E.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Great question, Judith! Our skilled technicians repair splices and clean dust and dirt, stabilize images and reduce flicker for better viewing quality, enhance the footage to improve color and lighting, digitally remove blank footage and leader film! It is important to note that although we will make our best efforts to improve your film, we would not be able to restore it and the amount of repair we are able to do does depend on the quality of the media submitted. You also want to keep in mind that your film will be spliced and combined onto new 400 ft. reels. Your empty reels will be returned, along with the new 400 ft. reels containing your original footage. Q:

I have reels of flim how many am I allowed to send?

Corinne C.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

This Groupon is not for a specific amount of services. It can be applied toward your total order for $60. Six three-inch reels are $54.00 as example. If you spend more than $60 you can simply pay the difference when you redeem your Groupon at YesVideo.

Marty S.  from  Self  replied on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Great question, Corinne! The deal is for you to spend the $60 any way you wish for our supported media types; this means you can send as many reels as you want and the Groupon will cover all costs up to its value. So, the $60's worth is dependent on the quantity and type of media you would like to transfer. Because our pricing is $0.18 per foot rather than per reel, we would need to know the size of your reel in order to be able to provide an accurate estimate of how many reels you can submit for the Groupon value. However, you can always calculate what you can get out of the Groupon with the media you have by visiting our website and telling us what you have; it will automatically give you a quote depending on the quantity you enter. I hope this helps!

Q:

Do I HAVE to use the EASYSHIP to send it to you ?

Joan L.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

No, you are not required to use the EasyShip kit.

Marty S.  from  Self  replied on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Hi Joan, thanks for the question! As Marty said, you are not required to purchase an EasyShip Kit. If you do not wish to purchase an EasyShip Kit, you can purchase a prepaid shipping label from our company or use a self-shipping method. If you choose self-shipping, no additional charges would be added to your order and the cost of shipping would be determined by the courier service you wish to use. If you choose to purchase a prepaid shipping label from us, you can do so during checkout. The cost is a flat $9.99 and you will receive a UPS label to print out after your order is submitted. Shipping back to you is a flat $10.99. If you wish to avoid any shipping charges, you can also use part of your Groupon value toward the shipping! It's also a good to know that if your order is over $150, you receive free shipping to us, and back to you.

Q:

I have several old movies (classic 80s movies like Goonies, etc) on VHS - can you transfer those as well or are their copyright rules that will prevent it?

Jennifer E.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

They cannot transfer copywritten material.

Marty S.  from  Self  replied on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Hi Jennifer, thanks for the question. YesVideo's focus is to help your family relive, share and protect special moments; we do not focus on transfers of copyrighted commercial material. We are capable of transferring professionally recorded footage, but we must follow the US Copyright Laws when transferring all professional footage. Any copyright-protected material, such as Hollywood movie videotapes and videotaped television programs, cannot be processed without a copyright release form signed by the copyright owner. Q:

What is the DPI resolution used for scanning 35 mm slides? I would like to compare this to other options and need to be sure it is equivilent service.

Mike L.  asked on  Feb 5, 2013

A:

Hi Mike, thanks for your question. The DPI for 35mm negatives is 3,000. It is also important to note that while the scanning industry has always used the term “DPI” to define the quality of scanning output, each image is transferred at 12 megapixel resolution-- one of the highest in the industry in quality. For every image that we process we manually clean up the images as opposed to running them through a software program. This clean-up includes: rotation to the correct orientation, cropping of borders to the correct size, color correction, white balance correction, fixing faded colors & tints, red-eye removal, and dust & scratch removal.
