Nature holds many nooks in which to seek inner peace, such as grottos hidden behind waterfalls, the uppermost branches of stately redwoods, or atop Roosevelt’s mustache on Mount Rushmore. Find scenic tranquility with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a yoga day hike mini-retreat from Yoga Desires (a $50 value).
Led by Yoga Desires owner and certified instructor Samantha, who is studying with Deepak Chopra and the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, day hikes guide stretchers of all experience levels on uphill excursions into the great non-indoors. A “Day Without Stress” yoga mini-retreat generally begins on a scheduled Saturday, Sunday, or Monday during the summer. After an early-morning roundup at a predetermined public location in Reno, participants caravan in their personal vehicles to trailheads around Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Mt. Rose, or Desolation Wilderness. From there, a high-elevation hike, averaging about six hours and ranging from 3 to 15 miles round-trip, challenges the physical and spiritual strength of flexible folks with a trek to a waterfall, a lake, or an otherwise breathtaking setting. Once in the wild, instructor-led yoga and meditation sessions are held for those who wish to take part, while others may privately practice or simply experience the vast beauty of nature without having to hide in the hardware-store nursery overnight.
Proper footwear, meaning boots or sturdy shoes, and enough water to remain adequately hydrated are required to attend the Yoga Desires retreat. Sunscreen, a lunch, allergy medicine, and extra clothing in case of unexpected foul weather or impromptu fashion shows are also highly encouraged. Each outing is designed for a limited number of people, so sign up as soon as possible to ensure a place on your date of choice.
