Would the option for 2 work for the big and lil chef class? Can this be applied towards a monthly membership?

This Groupon is only valid for the Jr. Chef, Sr. Chef, or Busy Chef classes.

Q:

I had some questions about your Fine print. Since you have to make the reservation with a credit card and 7 days in advance, will my credit card be charged if my child becomes sick? Of course, this cannot be predicted 7 days in advance. Also, will you be closed over the Thansgiving and Christmas Holidays?

Ginny C.  asked on  Nov 6, 2012

A:

The credit card is required but not charged at reservation. It is a backup in case of no shows or rescheduling/canceling without the required 7 days advance notice. Since we work with ingredients and schedule the instructors to teach the classes and have limited seats in class, when you reserve a spot in a particular class, it impacts the formula for all these factors and we will be ready with ingredients, the instructors and block a seat for you. If there's a no show, we have still incurred in these expenses (purchsed ingredients and materials which most of them are perishable, paid the hour for the instructors, blocked a seat in class that no other person would fill). In case of an emergency or a sick child we will require a call noticing the Academy at the earliest convenience and a note from the doctor or medical facility indicating their patient has been seen and that the patient is not in a condition to attend class.

Q:

My Kid is a Vegeterian. what kind of things will you be teaching her? is your Kitchen and receipe classes Vegeterian friendly? Thanks

sunil k.  asked on  Nov 6, 2012

A:

Thanks for your question. Junior and Teen Chef classes tipically cook 2 or 3 recipes per class. There's usually always something meatless, most of the program is meatless. If there is a meat dish in a particular class, it would just be one of the 2 or 3 items. In addition we discuss with the vegetarian student, how to adjust the recipe to make it appropriate for them, and when possible, we make a portion that would be meatless.

Q:

Do you have classes on Saturday morning? I cannot see schedule for Busy & Junior chefs on your site. thanks.

Judy C.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

We currently offer Kindercooks class 1/month on a Saturday Morning 10.30am to 11.30am We have one this coming Saturday November 10. This is for 3 to 5yr olds. Busy Chefs is offered on Wednesdays 4.15 to 5.15pm and or THURSDAYS 6PM to 7PM and a waitlist for Tuesdays 4.30-5.30pm Junior Chefs is currently offered Tuesdays 4.15 to 5.45pm / Wednesdays 5.30pm to 7.00pm / Thursdays 4.30pm-6pm We may add additional classes for all these offerings due to popularity including a Saturday morning class. However, currently we only have Kindercooks on Sat. Morning. The Busy Chefs Thursdays is a good option for working parents. Let's cook up some fun!

Q:

I really wanted my 10 year old to take a class on how to safely use knives for cutting, cooking...do you know of such a class? I could also sign up my 9 yr old and ask some friends if you could create such a class? Thanks Shannon Heeb

shannon h.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

Hi Shannon, Kids learn kitchen safety among other things in our weekly classes. If you are specifically wanting to participate in a class that would just deal with knife skills, we can definitely set up a private class at your convenience for your son, sibling and friends but this would not be a Groupon class. The Groupon voucher is good for our recurrent weekly afterschool classes Junior Chefs, Teen Chefs, Busy Chefs. Let's cook up some fun!

Q:

Do your recipes ever include ingredients with peanut or tree nut products? My son has peanut / tree nut allergies...if it would be safe for him to take the class, I'm sure he'd love it and have a great time! Thanks.

Christina A.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

We never use any nuts in class or in the facility. We use substitute ingredients in the recipes if it calls for nuts or just do without. However, there may be such things such as chocolate chips for example that have been manufactured in a facility that also processed nuts. In general, kids with nut allergies do great with our classes and can do everything. We still need to know about any food allergy and note it in the file. Let's cook up some fun!

Q:

I would like to buy 4 certificates for my 4 grandchildren. Can all 4 attend at the same time? May I buy 4 individual certificates as gifts?

Philip S.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

That is a GREAT GIFT!!!! We have many class options in terms of dates, times and age group. If they all fit within the age group for a specific class and there is availability in the particular date you would like to schedule their class, then yes, they will be able to attend all together. For your Guidance in general: Busy Chefs is Pre-School/Kinder, Junior Chefs is elementary school aged kids, Teen Chefs is Middle/High school kids. The best to get them all in together is to reserve their seat in class way in advance. Let's cook up fun!!

Q:

If a child has known food allergies - would bringing outside ingredients to the class for a safer "cooking in a new place" experience be permitted? It would be the same thing we do at home, but in a new environment I know it would add something extra special to the experience of cooking/baking.

Lee H.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

We always need to know about food allergies and we have ways to handle food allergies that we will be happy to discuss case by case. In some cases it involves bringing some of the ingredients that you know have been "blessed" for your child's particular allergy. Coming to YCA Frisco's classes, certainly adds a lot about the cooking experience since our classes work on a group setting, we practice leadership, sharing, partnering and many other social skills in a positive reinforcement environment and also provide value added with cool facts about the ingredients, the recipes and other things as opening up their minds in terms of substitutions, balancing meals, using math, reading, science, etc.!!! Let's cook up fun!

Q:

I have a 6 year old, so I assume he'd be in the Jr. Chef. How does this work. Is it a drop-off, or do the parents stay?

William R.  asked on  Nov 5, 2012

A:

A 6 Yr. Old can be in Junior Chefs Tuesday (4.15-5.45pm) / Wednesday (5.30-7pm) or Thursday (4.30-6pm) or Busy Chefs Thursday (6-7pm). It is up to you if you want to drop-off or stay and watch. We want parents and kids to be absolutely comfortable so you decide if you want to drop-off or stay. The last part of every class, the kids invite the parents in the class and they present what they worked on for the class. So we encourage parents to be in for the last 5 minutes but it is not mandatory. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Let's cook up some fun!
