Q:

This site states: The IAU frequently receives requests from individuals who want to buy stars or name stars after other persons. Some commercial enterprises purport to offer such services for a fee. However, such "names" have no formal or official validity whatever: http://www.iau.org/public/themes/buying_star_names/ Therefore, what and who is this "Star Naming Registry?"

Paul F.  asked on  Dec 21, 2013

A:

It is actually called the Star Dedication Registry. You can view and search the list of people who have dedicated stars to each other at the StarDedicationRegistry.org.

I would like to give this as a gift for a work party. I don't know who the recipient will be. Is there a time limit for registering the name? Can I give the recipient the voucher and let them register on their own?

Greg S.  asked on  Dec 15, 2013

A:

The voucher code you receive will never expire even if Groupon says it will.... we never mark them as expired.

Q:

Deal says I can purchase 3 and 2 additional as gifts. Question 1- Is the 3 as in 3 star dedications, whether it is 3 single star purchases or 1 single and 2 double? or can I purchase 3 double for a total of 6 dedications? Question 2 - For the double dedication, does it have to be the same person or can it be for two different individuals? Question 3 - For the gift option, does it have to be mailed to them or can I receive it so I can print the certificate?

Donna W.  asked on  Nov 13, 2013

A:

Question 1: No, you can by 3 sets of double star dedications. Question 2: No, you get 2 separate redemption codes. Question 3: The gift option sends them the redemption code. You still have to redeem the redemption code to dedicate the star.
