Yu-Mi Sushi combines the cozy, neon-lit setting of a lounge with the food and drink menu of a Japanese izakaya, or specialty pub. Amid dark wood accents, pendant lamps, and high-backed booths, diners peer through menu of familiar classics, such as pan-fried pork gyoza, chicken yakisoba, and teriyaki-glazed steak. Then there are the sushi chefs, who send out platters of nigiri, sashimi, and more than 50 kinds of maki. They make a special point to impress diners with their original and imaginative rolls. Some include the lobster roll, which contrasts the crunch of lettuce with tender lobster and the phoenix roll, which sports a lemony acidity that cuts through bold fried shrimp and spicy tuna. A seasonal mango lovers roll is also available in the summer. An assortment of Japanese beers and sakes helps keep evening gatherings lively.
