What You'll Get
In the late 1800s, thousands of Texans struck it rich when they tapped into veins of thick, dark, tangy barbecue sauce (as chronicled in the Oscar-winning film There Will Be Sauce). Today's Groupon gives you the chance to taste this natural bounty while it's still hot from the earth: for $7, you get $15 worth of barbecue and frozen treats at Zack's Fire & Ice.
Zack's superheroic owners Randy and Kathy Stewart punched through walls, ripped up tile, and fought the force of inertia to make way for an up-to-date barbeque kitchen in the back of this former Market Street ice-cream shop. The restaurant now invites customers to harness the power of opposing elements by combining creamy sweetness with volcanic smokehouse spices. They can pair pumpkin pecan ice cream with a full slab of gooey ribs ($16.49) or with a BBQ sampler platter laden with succulent pulled pork, brisket, and sausage ($14.49 with two sides). But wise sauce slurpers stay away from the cry pie, a slice of stomach kryptonite loaded with hot peppers.

About Zack's Fire and Ice
Once a ramshackle ice-cream store with a loyal Akron following, today Zack's Fire and Ice serves barbecue along with its cones with help from new owner and former pastor Randy Stewart and his wife, Kathy. The Stewarts have lived in the Southwest and up and down the East Coast, so rather than adhere strictly to any one regional barbecue style, they synthesize their favorite elements from a number of traditions to create an eatery with the welcoming spirit of a backyard cookout. The kitchen slow smokes brisket, ribs, pork, and turkey breast and slathers them with sauces such as honey and apple bourbon. Frozen treats such as sorbet and frozen yogurt stay chilly at the ice-cream counter alongside hard-packed ice cream in flavors such as pumpkin pecan, oatmeal cookie, and Superman, designed to freeze enemies’ brains faster than a speeding bullet.
