Bread is strong enough to fortify flimsy food pyramids, yet gentle enough to hug lonely condiments in a warm embrace. Cultivate a culinary cornerstone with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of freshly baked flatbread and artisanal pies at Zen Bakeries in Orange.

Tapping into the storied tradition of Lebanese baking, Zen Bakeries lets customers sample the fruits of a wood-fired brick oven in the form of artisanal flatbread and pita treats. Patrons can choose from either white or whole wheat for nearly all of the baked morsels. The shop's kitchen wizards mix and knead both varieties daily, ensuring that outdated dough such as yesterday's pita and two-dollar bills have no place in this world. Early risers can stop by for a freshly baked egg-and-cheese pita pie ($3.50) or side with sweet in its epic battle against savory by ordering an eye-opening Nutella-and-banana pita pie ($1.50–$3.50).

At lunchtime, the eatery dishes up 9-inch, brick-oven flatbread pizzas topped with everything from pepperoni to mushrooms ($3.50). Smaller pita squares and triangles come filled with meats or veggies ($1–$2.50), offering little nibbles as well as help with geometry homework. A pressed halloumi cheese and veggie sandwich ($5.50) and a veggie pita wrap with mint and labneh, or strained yogurt ($4.50), are among the meatless Middle Eastern offerings.

It's a little out of the way but definitely worth the trip for fresh made Lebanese specialties - made accessible to all by the friendly ownder who mans the coal fire pita ovens himself.
