About Zen Asian Fusion Tapas & Lounge
Although Zen Asian Fusion Tapas & Lounge was named "Best Asian Restaurant" by Alameda Magazine readers in 2010, it might be misleading to simply call it an Asian restaurant. For every dish that melds Korean and Chinese cuisine (say, the spicy kimchi fried rice), there's another blending in Italian, Hawaiian, or even English influences—for instance, the panko-crusted fish and chips or the stir-fried spaghetti with fish roe and prawns. With so many mingling heritages, it's only natural that the food itself is meant to be shared. But rather than mashing four entrees into a big bowl for the whole table, the staff prepares a menu mostly comprised of small plates, allowing diners to split pork-belly sushi or enoki beef—mushrooms and red onions wrapped in thin-sliced ribeye and drizzled with teriyaki.
