$10 for $20 Worth of Greek Food or European Groceries

Rumbling stomachs quiet with the moussaka plate ($7), feta cheese and olives ($5.55), or a platter of roasted gyros ($14) accompanied by kalamata olives and either greek salad or lentil soup. The selection of vegetarian pita sandwiches includes eggplant parmesan with garlic-herb cream cheese and parmesan cheese ($7.25). Meat pita sandwiches include philly cheesesteak served on a pita ($7.95) and chicken shawarmah ($6.95). See the full menu here.

Next door, Zorba’s Market carries European groceries that range in price from $5 to $200. The selection includes olive oil, whole olives, jumbo bags of couscous, and an array of hookah pipes and shisha.

Zorba the Greek

The chefs at Zorba the Greek know the bursting point of a pita pocket, and bring their sandwiches to the brink by loading them with feta, falafel, and chicken shawarma. They also use fresh meats and produce to craft classic Greek entrees such as gyros platters and moussaka—a dish of layered eggplant and meat best consumed using tiny rock picks for a scrumptious excavation. A kids' menu offers simplified version of the adult food, including grilled cheese pitas and a mozzarella-topped greek pie. For dessert, diners can sink their teeth into flaky walnut-and-pistachio baklava so universally delicious it can be used as currency in most countries.

Zorba the Greek

In 2011, readers of Lagniappe named Zorba the Greek Mobile's best spot for ethnic food. To understand why requires only a peek at their preparation methods. They create every dish from scratch, blending all-natural garbanzo beans into savory hummus and crisp falafel, and turning fresh, organic eggplant into creamy baba ghanoush. Even their popular roasted chicken gets the full treatment, marinating in an intoxicating blend of spices before broiling over an open flame. The result is a menu of fresh and authentic Greek cuisine that ranges from pita stuffed with chicken or beef shawarma to full platters flanked by a medley of scratch-made side dishes.

Customer Reviews

Best tasting hummus in Mobile. Love the giros and Greek food.

The gyros are excellent, but we did not enjoy the dinner entrees. The atmosphere is lacking but sandwiches are good.
