Q:

I have just turned 60 and not been active but occasional walking. I want to get into shape and I know this is fun. but I will not be able to compete with a class of younger ladies and I do have a knee problem. would I still be able to do zumba and start slowly to build up endurance again or is this going to be wrong class and I need a "seniors" class thanks Susan

A:

Hello Susan! The great thing about a Zumba Fitness class is that we have people from the ages of 12-70's!! :D We have people of ALL fitness levels in our class as well. I show modifications of movements in every song, starting with the low move and then going to the intense move. You always LISTEN to YOUR BODY. No need to feel like there is competition! We are all just one big happy family working toward the goal of being healthy and PARTYING our way to get there! ;) Give us a shot! But, please consult with your physician first about your knee problems.. :)

Q:

What is the youngest age for someone to participate? I would love for my girls 7 and 12 to do this with me. THanks, Teresa

A:

Hi Teresa! We recommend that parents come alone FIRST and gauge if they feel the class is appropriate for their children. Every parent has a different standard in which they raise their child of what is ok. In my humble opinion, (and as a mother of two boys) :) I feel a 12 year old would be fine, but not so sure about the 7 year old... Some of the moves we do can be too intense for the body of a 7 year old, therefor I would be concerned they may injure something. I look forward to seeing you! :)
