Dawn Hammer schools students twice a week in Zumba, the vibrant, Latin-inspired dance-fitness form that raises the heart rates of millions of people across the country. The fitness program’s easy-to-learn moves and strength exercises are adjustable for age, experience, fitness level, and ruling planet. As pupils shimmy to high-energy Latin and international music, they engage muscles and locate heretofore undiscovered rug-cutting skills. Students should bring a towel, water bottle, and 1-2-pound weights with them to class, and may choose to use their eight classes on any day that suits work schedules and shopping trips for snugger dance clothing.
Zumba with Dawn
Dawn Hammer's infectious enthusiasm packs enough motivation to get a shy George Washington statue to dance, and it's the key ingredient in her one-hour Zumba fitness classes. During these sessions, she leads up to 35 students through high-energy hip shaking and cardio shimmying. Latin-inspired beats resound in the expansive gym as Dawn teaches the fast-paced dance routines. Her four years of Zumba experience inform her expertise, which she makes use of as students jive with one- to two-pound weights, gulps of water, and hair that bounces as though programmed to move with the beats.
