With a range that is useful for candid portraiture, capturing children playing in the backyard, amateur sports or even wildlife at the zoo this lens is usually the lens that photographers reach for first. Capable of macro photography, this lens has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2.SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens provides excellent correction of chromatic aberration. It’s great on vacation for capturing scenic details or even groups of flowers in a garden. The Sigma 70-300mm offer a 4 to 1 zoom ratio in a compact lens that is easily carried in your camera bag or left on the camera as you travel; and the images are magnificent.
DG - DG for Digital
Sigma's DG lenses are specifically designed to deliver the ultimate level of performance on full frame digital SLRs. Sigma DGs also maximize the abilities of 35mm SLR cameras and APS-C size DSLRs. Thanks to a complete and comprehensive approach to the correction of chromatic aberrations, you will experience incredible image clarity and smoothness. Specific attention was paid to helping eliminate color fringing often caused by lateral chromatic aberration, a problem that is magnified at high resolution in digital photography. DG lenses provide exceptionally high contrast along with subtle gradations in tone and color. Super Multi-Layer Coating, along with Sigma's optimized optical design work to reduce reflections between the image sensor and the lens surfaces. The large image circles of DG lenses mean there will always be enough peripheral illumination to avoid vignetting.
Reduces Ghost and Flare
The new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range.
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) Glass
Sigma used SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. This also corrects for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. High optical performance is demonstrated throughout the entire zoom range.
It is capable of macro photography with a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300mm focal length. The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 m/59 inches at all zoom settings. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2 and a minimum focusing distance of 95cm (37.4 inches). Without changing the distance between camera and subject, you can change the shooting magnification.
