What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Our programming is based on a mission to enrich the lives of children by fostering fun and building character through exceptional sports and summer camp programs. We want every attending camper to take away lessons based in positive energy, maximized effort, self-confidence and leadership. What is the experience customers can expect? We foster the engagement of every camper – whether they’re laughing with a teammate, practicing a new technique or learning a valuable lesson from a coach – in a physically & emotionally safe space, allowing campers to take chances in order to develop as players, leaders and character-driven people. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Founded in 1997 by Brendan Sullivan during the off-season of his professional baseball career, our first marketing piece was a copy of his baseball card. Our inspiration was and is the opportunity to impact and inspire young people and teach them skills to help them lead a happy and meaningful life. What do you love most about your job? We have the pleasure of spending 52 weeks each year thinking about, building towards and preparing for the summer. We're able to dedicate our time, energy and resources to building the most engaging, safest and meaningful summer programs around to ensure your camper has a great time with us at camp.

  • Coolidge Corner Theatre
Five Things to Know About the Coolidge Corner Theatre Brookline’s independent movie palace isn’t just a place to see movies, it’s a community gathering spot that hosts variety shows, movies for the deaf and hard of hearing, an opera series, and more. The Depression-era theater also has an eventful history all its own. Read on to learn more about its story: The theater’s story is as dramatic as a movie. It took 17 years for Brookline residents to agree to build the theater. Since its grand opening in 1933, the Coolidge has come close to shuttering three times, but the community has rallied to keep the doors open. Kick back and have a drink. The theater serves wine and beer to go along with its cast of independent and foreign films. It’s not all about the films. There are live performances, like puppet and magic shows for kids, and book signings and discussions. It’s got an award named after it. Established in 2004, the Coolidge Award honors filmmakers and actors for consistently outstanding and interesting works. Meryl Streep and Viggo Mortensen are past winners. You don’t have to go the cinema to see a movie. During the summer, the Coolidge partners with the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy to show classic films in Wharf District Park.

  • Viking Sports
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? The Viking Activity Center is a beautiful, wide open hardwood facility complete with lots of fun sports equipment for kids to play with, kick around, and jump on during Open Play. The facility is also equipped with a family friendly bathroom. What is the experience customers can expect? The Viking Activity Center allows for positive social interactions for kids and parents alike. Parents can expect their kids to burn off all of that endless energy. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Being a father of 3 young kids, I realized there were limited active options for children on my stay at home dad days. So, I decided to open an Activity Center that filled that need in the community. Kids need a place where they can move around, be loud, & be themselves. What do you love most about your job? I enjoy seeing kids make new friends stories, watching parents meet someone new, and appreciating the fun everyone is having.

  • Franklin Park Tennis Association
Lasting friendships could be a natural side effect of the fast-paced match play that occurs atop Franklin Park Tennis Association’s Shattuck Grove courts. The nonprofit organization enlists certified tennis pros to teach fundamentals during summer classes and camps and winter indoor lessons, while fostering a sense of community among players. On Saturdays during the summer, classes for kids, youths, and adults are scheduled one after the other. This gives parents an opportunity to chat as kids play, and players get some time to connect before hitting the courts. Competitors can walk away with new comrades and a greater appreciation for active, healthy living that’s usually only obtained by blending a year’s worth of fitness magazines into a morning smoothie.
