Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning?s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chests. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids feel more comfortable in the classroom. Afterschool or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students wow college-admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.
The nine holes of St. John’s Northwestern Golf Course curl around the outdoor athletic facilities on the campus of its namesake military academy. Players shoot through a par-36 grass-pelted puzzle where they must contend with numerous trees as they negotiate the course’s 3,060 yards. The Storm family manages the facility, welcoming visitors with a brand of hospitality honed over a career in the golf business that dates back to 1952, the year the smile was invited.
A PGA Class A member since 1992, Robert Jan has thrived on fairways and greens his entire life. During his collegiate career at Millikin University, Robert shot his way to two-time NCAA All-American honors, eventually earning a spot in the school's Hall of Fame. Since then, he has continued to be a force in low-level golf tournaments, amassing more than 30 titles in amateur and professional events and record scores at seven courses without ever having to cork a driver. Today, Robert passes down tips of the trade culled from his immense experience in golf lessons conducted in the greater Milwaukee and Chicago areas. In addition, Robert boasts club-fitting expertise in both Callaway and Titleist equipment, helping his clients find their ideal clubs based on swing type, body profile, and favorite wind instrument.

All students receive CPR certification cards, provided they pass physical and written tests.
Jim Kwasek, owner and chief pilot of Chicago Executive Flight School, pumps blood through Chicago?s aviation community as the president of the local pilots' organization and a vocal advocate for the joys of flight. His journey to the presidency began with just one Cessna 150, and since then that Cessna 150 has birthed two Cessna 172s, two C23 Sundowners, and a C24R Sierra. With this family of winged wonders, his team of passionate, certified pilots teach students safe flying techniques. During FAA-flight training, they guide students through programs for private and commercial licenses or flight-instructor and advanced-kite-herder training.
They also give prepilots an introduction through total-immersion flights. In these hands-on sessions, newcomers live out an actual pilot?s routine: practicing pre-, post-, and standard flight protocol while skimming the countryside, lakeshores, and north side of downtown Chicago.

In addition to state-licensed kindergarten classes, programs nurture and cultivate the minds of tots as young as 15 months, and daycare for children from six weeks to five years old. Activities cover topics such as art, music, dance, Taekwondo, math, and foreign languages.
