The Tennessee Respite Coalition (TRC) works with family caregivers across the state of Tennessee to help provide them with short-term, temporary relief from their duties caring for adults or children with disabilities or special needs. Temporary relief can enable caregivers to satisfy their own needs and get a much-needed break from the demands of providing ongoing care.
TRC assists caregivers who look after individuals of any age, and allows them to choose their own respite provider. While their loved ones are cared for, caregivers may engage in a variety of activities, from taking a trip to spending time with other family members and catching up on other errands such as grocery shopping. In the past year, TRC has provided more than 200 families across the state of Tennessee with access to respite services.
Founded with the goal of transforming downtown Nashville into a compelling, culturally rich urban center, Nashville Downtown Partnership fosters a sense of community via fun-filled initiatives that showcase the city’s finest offerings, such as the annual Downtown Home Tour. Participants on the tour get a chance to see a variety of chic private spaces, ogling unique floor plans with an emphasis on ultramodern design that whisk guests into the future without the disheveled hairdos inherent with leaps through the time-space continuum. The Partnership creates such interactive experiences to help introduce locals to the benefits of living in the center of Music City, such as having easy access to its hundreds of restaurants as well as sports and entertainment venues.
Nurses for Newborns supports families most at-risk for infant mortality by performing in-home nursing visits that include assessments of the infant's sleeping environment and education about safe sleep practices and positive parenting skills. The organization's representatives conduct visits with teenage moms and mothers with disabilities, families who are experiencing poverty, and those whose babies are born with medical problems. In addition to providing necessary medical care and teaching parents useful skills, they also provide donated materials such as diapers, clothing, food, cribs, and bedding.
Friends of Riverside Drive, a collective volunteer effort, began with a vision to transform local neighborhoods by planting dogwood and yoshino cherry trees. Along with tree plantings across neighborhoods and involvement with the Riverside Blossom Festival, Friends of Riverside Drive’s main work is restoring beauty and dignity to Riverside Drive, a community road that provides the main route to the National Cemetery and once served as a recognized, living memorial to war veterans.
