Nearly a decade ago, master-stylist Jarmen Kordou founded J. Antou Salon in Aveda's established tradition of beauty, health, and earth friendliness. Offering services from cuts to color to nail and skincare, Kordou and crew transform exteriors with Aveda products rendered largely from organic ingredients such as marshmallow root, sunflower oil, and nut-seed pigment from Brazil. With this garden-grown palette at their disposal, the stylists take a personal, consultative approach to beauty, customizing treatments to their clients' face shape, lifestyle, and fedora-wearing habits.
As far as hairstylists go, Ross Bartolomei is about as Chicago as they come. He began his career styling hair for John Hughes’s movies—including Curly Sue— and Allure took notice, including him in an article covering Chicago's best stylists. Features in American Salon and other prominent industry publications followed, along with the opening of Salon Hype. Helmed by Ross and his wife Carissa, the pair of beauty bars invites clients to indulge in its extensive list of hair, skin, and nail services. Aside from being luxurious, the salon’s offering are also eco-friendly. Ross and his team are committed to using low-chemical products, including INOA, L'Oréal Professionnel's ammonia-free hair color, and Hype Solution, Ross's own line of paraben- and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Otherwise, they rely on some of the industry's top product lines: Bumble and bumble. for styling, Kérastase conditioning treatments, Keratin Complex blowouts, and Essie nail polishes.
For nearly two decades, men, women, and kids have flocked to Cove Hair Salon to shape their locks into the latest styles. The current staff includes talented stylists such as Erin R. and Kelsey C. When not styling updos for weddings or applying hair extensions, the staffers turn their attention to other beauty services, including mani-pedis and laser teeth whitening.
But it's not just makeovers that bring clients to Cove Hair Salon. The business is also a donation center for Locks of Love, which supplies hairpieces to disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
