Greg Massialas, the head coach and director at M Team Fencing So Cal, brings an impressive resumé brimming with the highest achievements in the sport. From beginners to pros, every student he works with gets training from a fencer who competed in the 1980, 1984, and 1988 Olympics, attained the No. 1 ranking for foil fencing in the United States, and coached members of the US Olympic, World Championship, and Pan American teams. Greg’s commitment to success pervades the club, extending to fellow instructors Heik Hambarzumian and Doris Willette. It's is particularly palpable in the Youth Champions program. By sharpening the minds and bodies of young competitors and fostering a sense of discipline and teamwork, the program aims to groom the next wave of fencing champions or musketeers. Given this mission, the stellar track record comes as little surprise: past graduates have succeeded at the NCAA, National, and Olympic levels, and at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, the club’s top fencer became the youngest to ever represent Team USA.
High-quality facilities and instruction are important in a fencing school, but so is having a strong sense of community. South Coast has all those things under one roof, with instructors that are equally comfortable teaching competitive athletes or casual enthusiasts. They
even offer group lessons for every skill level, including children as young as 7. Introductory-level classes focus on
footwork, handwork, and distance control while also introducing students to the sport's rules and traditions. More experienced students can attend
classes that cover techniques and strategic thinking for competition. There are also private lessons and extra perks: members also get access to the center's
weight room, study lounge, and practice areas.

At the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, Sergei Golubitsky took home the Silver Medal in Men's Foil fencing. This is the crowning achievement of a fencing career that also boasts three straight World Championships, multiple European Championships, and Masters titles, as well as a book about his experiences, Fencing is My Life. Clearly, Sergei has learned a lot in his multidecade career as a fencer. Today, he passes on the expertise that took him to the top of the sport as an instructor at his eponymous academy, Golubitsky Fencing Center. Students learn to lunge and parry directly from Sergei himself, polishing their physical technique and mental strategy through lessons, camps, and clinics.
Salle D’Asaro Fencing Club head coach Michael D’Asaro Jr. trains his students for success, preparing many former students to compete on NCAA fencing teams at the top colleges and universities. He helps them achieve this goal by demanding a high level of dedication—the same kind of dedication he has put into his own career. The son of legendary fencer and club founder Michael D’Asaro Sr., D’Asaro spent his youth swiftly ascending to the 1996 U.S. Olympic men’s saber team. He now coaches in foil, épée, and saber techniques, leading group lessons replete with drills and practice bouts as well as private sessions ideal for getting more one-on-one guidance.
